Tom Elsey and Crew on Yotei
Tom and his 6 friends had already been on a resort tour and a Cat skiing tour with us earlier in the week but decided they wanted to step into the Hokkaido backcountry to finish off their trip.
Experienced snowboarders but first timers in the backcountry, Tom and the crew were open to trying something new. Our guides Piotrek and Elliott looked at the conditions at a few different spots and finally planned a route on Mount Yotei that would be manageable but also hugely rewarding, even after a long dry spell.
Because who doesn’t want to ride powder on a volcano in Japan?
The best riding on Yotei is below the tree-line where the snow is sheltered from the wind and sun. And even though we hadn’t had fresh snow in a few days, Tom and his crew got some sweet lines, whooping all the way back to the car.
